1.3.4 Definitions and symptoms

Contact person: fever + compatible exposure (any individual with fever in the 21 days following a return from a risk area).

Probable case: fever + exposure + symptoms such as:

  • Asthenia, anorexia

  • Diffuse pains, headaches, abdominal pains, chest pains

  • Coughing, respiratory sounds (rhonchi, rales), dysphagia, vomiting, diarrhea

  • Hepatomegaly, splenomegalia

  • Visceral and cutaneo-mucosal hemorrhages…

Or patient with a clinical presentation compatible with an Ebola VHF and no possible evaluation of the exposure risk.

Confirmed case: confirmed by biological testing.

A probable case confirmed by laboratory analysis (IgM serology positive, PCR positive or virus isolated).
