2.1 Descriptive epidemiology (continued)

Its main objectives are:

• To describe the frequency of new diseases (e.g. HIV/AIDS, dengue)

• Gather greater knowledge on health problems affecting a population

It secondary objectives are:

• To increase the capacity to take action/make decisions

  • Prevention

  • Deploying teams of health care workers

  • Launching health education campaigns, etc.

• To suggest research topics
