1.3.6 Ebola virus containment strategy and patient care

1.3.6.1 Identifying a potential case when there is no outbreak

The following signs might raise the suspicion of a potential VHF:

  • Lack of improvement after proper treatment against the most common illnesses.

  • With the addition of other symptoms such as hemorrhage or cardiovascular shock.

  • If the patient was in contact with other individuals with fever and hemorrhage or who passed away with such symptoms in the 2 to 21 days prior to the onset of symptoms.

  • If the patient attended a funeral in the 2 to 21 days before the onset of symptoms.

  • If the patient was in contact with infected animals (monkeys, bats), for example, by eating bush meat.
