3.5 Personal Protective Equipment

3.5.1 Background

  • Personnel working with suspected, confirmed and/or cases confined in high risk areas have to have specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • The personnel need to know the putting on (donning) and taking off (doffing) protocol

  • Several PPE systems are available on the field

  • It is very important to have PPE of good quality (MSF standard) and to train the personnel on how to use them

Two types of PPE are available:

  • A « full » PPE: for high risk areas where direct contact with patients occurs

  • A « lighter » PPE: for areas of lower risk where there is no direct contact with patients
