Figure 1: Pentose sugar (deoxyribose) of DNA
DNA is composed of nucleotides. Each nucleotide is made up of three components bonded to each other:
A sugar composed of 5 carbon atomes (pentose sugar) known as deoxyribose -> The 5 carbon atoms are numbered 1’, 2', 3', 4', 5'
A Phosphate group bonded to the 5’ carbon of desoxyribose
A Nitrogenous base bonded to the 1’ carbon of deoxyribose
