One of the nucleic acid components is a sugar, called ribose in RNA and deoxyribose in DNA (see chapter 1).
The 2' carbon contains a hydroxyl group (-OH) that replaces one of the hydrogen atoms of the pentose.
Riboses are linked together by a phosphodiester bond, similarly to the one in DNA.
